The position

The Shopify Developer is a new role within the Ecommerce team and is responsible for the improvement and maintenance of our Shopify Online Store to deliver an exceptional digital customer experience and support digital growth. 

This is a permanent full-time position working Monday through Friday in a hybrid capacity from our Workshop in Canmore, Alberta, or fully remote. 

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and help maintain our Shopify storefront, ensuring high performance and responsiveness on desktop and mobile devices
  • Create and code Shopify themes tailored to our business needs
  • Implement Shopify apps and integrate third-party tools and APIs to enhance store functionality 
  • Handle technical issues related to web development and integration of tools and apps
  • Work closely with the Senior Ecommerce Specialist to ensure the website is optimized for conversions and user satisfaction
  • Apply security measures to safeguard our website
  • Implement SEO, accessibility, and site speed optimizations
  • Customize Shopify Plus checkout using Shopify Functions
  • Test and debug the website to ensure optimal performance
  • Add tracking to capture key customer events in GA4
  • Document development processes and user guides
  • Develop reusable code for future use
  • Keep up with Shopify updates, emerging trends, and technologies in web development

Does this sound like you?

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a Shopify Development role
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline 
  • A passion for the customer digital experience with an entrepreneurial spirit 
  • Broad Shopify online store construction, launch, and maintenance expertise, as well as a strong understanding of the Shopify admin and recent Shopify updates
  • Proven skills in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript
  • Strong knowledge of Shopify's theming system and Liquid templating
  • Previous experience implementing/debugging third-party Shopify apps, as well as building unique solutions if needed
  • Strong knowledge of Shopify's object/properties, AJAX API, and Meta fields
  • Extensive testing and debugging abilities
  • Experience building and QA'ing Shopify Functions
  • Experience with GA4, Google Tag Manager, and coding data to capture in the Data Layer
  • Ability to communicate effectively, provide proactive feedback and work cross-functionally with other areas of the business 
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs, with strong problem-solving skills and a high attention to detail
