The position

The Janitorial Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and professional environment throughout the Canmore Workshop and assigned spaces. This role performs routine and specialized cleaning duties, supports health and safety standards, and ensures all areas are presentable for team members, contractors, and visitors. The Janitorial Specialist operates cleaning equipment, manages cleaning supplies, and identifies facility maintenance concerns requiring attention. 

This is a permanent part-time position working Monday through Friday from 5:00pm - 10:00pm at our Workshop in Canmore, Alberta. 

What you'll be doing

Cleaning & Sanitation  

• Clean and sanitize offices, meeting rooms, lunchrooms, washrooms, locker rooms, stairs and common areas 
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and polish floors using appropriate equipment and cleaning products 
• ​​Dust and wipe furniture, fixtures, windowsills, ledges, and other surfaces 
• Empty waste receptacles and recycling containers and dispose of waste according to established procedures 
• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces to maintain health and hygiene standards 
• Replenish restroom and facility supplies, including soap, paper towels, tissue, and sanitizing products 

Facility Maintenance Support  

• Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas to identify cleanliness issues or maintenance concerns 
• Report facility deficiencies, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or repair requirements 
• Support seasonal cleaning activities and special projects 

Equipment & Inventory Management  

• Safely operate and maintain janitorial equipment, including floor scrubbers, vacuums, pressure washers, and other cleaning equipment 
• Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and advise supervisors of replenishment needs 
• Properly store equipment, chemicals, and supplies in designated areas 
• Follow manufacturer guidelines for equipment operation and maintenance  

Health, Safety & Compliance  

• Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental protocols 
• Follow WHMIS, chemical handling, and safe work procedures 
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required 
• Maintain awareness of workplace hazards and take corrective action when safe to do so 
• Support organizational safety initiatives and participate in safety meetings and training 

Production Support (As Required)  

• Assist with basic production tasks when sanitation workload allows  
• Support activities such as material handling, packing, labeling, and staging  
• Flex between janitorial and production duties based on daily operational needs 

Does this sound like you?

• Minimum 1 year of janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, or facility maintenance experience preferred 
• Ability to follow instructions, procedures and schedules  
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, products, and sanitation practices 
• Understanding of workplace safety procedures and chemical handling requirements 
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision 
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills 
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively 
• Strong communication and teamwork skills 
• Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities 
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs (23 kg)
• Ability to push and pull cleaning carts and equipment
• Ability to work in varying environmental conditions and around cleaning chemicals
